SkyTrex Adventure

Clearly, my friends and I are getting a bit bored of the usual makan/yamcha/beers/clubbing sessions, and are looking for a new kind of adventure.
Someone mentioned SkyTrex the other day, and surprisingly, ALL of us were pretty stoked about it. Made a few phone calls and managed to make our group as big as 20-30 people!

To put things plainly, SkyTrex is an outdoors obstacle course through the jungle - but in the sky!
Imagine jungle trekking, but instead of trekking on the ground like normal people would, we’re abnormal people going about it in the sky. Swinging from tree-to-tree, walking on wires, that sort of thing. Sounds like fun

Loong, moi, and Dennis; having lunch beforehand!

We needed all the energy we could get, the day is gonna be a long workout!
A slight oversight on my part because I ended up a bit hungover that morning, thanks to that crazy Heineken Green Room party the night before. Heh :)

Mucking around while waiting for the bus.
Bernard, Dennis, Cynthia, Loong, Denise, Luxanne in the front. A hidden Aaren & Zyran at the back. And Chris flapping his wings!

And it’s so nice to see everyone dressed in sports wear, for a change!
Unlike our usual casual, or clubbing clothes.

Luxanne: This is my old school bag!
Me: ……can you even fit books in it?
Luxanne: No.

Gearing up at the site. Bryan’s always camera-ready ;)

At this point, can see all the boys getting a lil’ uncomfortable with their harnesses on. Too close for comfort to the family jewels, presumably.

When we’re all ready and set to go, we walked by this tall-ass-ladder up a tree, and went “whoa” . This is the starting point?? And next to it was a signboard that says “Big Thrill Adventure”.

“Didn’t James sign us up for The Extreme Challenge, the highest level above Big Thrill? Omaigod.”

Suddenly, all our excited faces turned to worried ones.

On to greener pastures.

In addition to the new camera and new media player i splurged on earlier this year,
another bright and shiny, geeky new gadget I’ve recently acquired is, a new laptop.

P1000234-f
The HP Pavillion dm3 Notebook

Now, heaven knows I love my old one, the red Dell,
but it’s the new year, and so on to trying newer things, right? :)

Firstly, this HP one is soooooo purdyyyyy……
I don’t know if my picture does it justice but it looks FANTASTIC in real life: chrome silver finish, thin, (less than 1 inch thin), sleek, and sexy as hell.
And I refuse to take off the plastic sheet that protects its surface sexiness. Dammit let me look for a proper picture online for your visual pleasure.

hp-pavilion-dm3
nah sexxayy ambik engkau

But okay, surely I don’t just go for looks. (pun maybe intended)

What I love most about the laptop is that it’s small, fairly smaller than my old laptop, and it’s LIGHT.

Lord knows I’ve lugged around my old laptop and it’s heavy as hell. Makes me not wanna bring it out at all sometimes, especially during travels
Poor David was in charge of laptop duty during our trip to Miri and Kuching. You shoulda seen his im-not-happy-about-this-but-im-a-gentleman-so-i’ll-carry-it-anyway face.

Compared to my old laptop, the HP dm3 comes with an external CD drive (that black, equally sexy thing in the first picture), which obviously takes away a huge part of the overall weight.
And let’s face it, I hardly use the CD drive anyway ;)

P1000235-y

And as if all that’s not great enough, it also comes pre-installed with the coveted Windows 7.
I’ve been using Vista on the old lappy, despite its flaws, I really love the graphics and couldn’t bear to go back to the stable but boring XP.
Windows 7 is fairly similar to Vista, minus the flaws, so I had no troubles adjusting to the new operating system ;)

3 cheers to my 3 new geeky toys!

Groceries.

Driving back from our weekend in Melaka, Boyfriend and I stopped by Cold Storage to do some much-needed grocery shopping for the apartment.

I’ve always loved grocery shopping, you see. Even though I don’t do it very often because my mom handles the groceries for our household, but whenever I do tag along, I get to chose all the snacks and sweets I want :) while mom handles the fruits, veggies, meat - ie. the boring cooking stuff hehehe.

But about 45 minutes into running around Cold Storage and a fuller shopping cart later, standing at the cashier, I noticed that our shopping cart had no snacks whatsoever in it.

We filled it with only the bare necessities, which surprisingly still came up to a very full shopping cart: Chicken (for dinner that night); assorted veggies (’cause a meal without veggies is an incomplete one!); cili padi (’cause god knows i love my chillies); milk and cereal (clearly for him, not for me); assorted fruits; pasta sauce; shower gel (we’re running out); etc i can’t remember everything; and of course my Chinese cooking wine. My special noodley soup is not the same without it!

Standing at the cashier looking into our shopping cart, it then occurred to me. Somewhere along the way, I stop caring about the snacks and sweets, and grew up to love the boring cooking stuff.

Somehow it was less of a chore, and more of a good time, if you do it with someone special. Stocking up not even for my own household, but for his apartment, in which I spend a great deal of my time now anyway.

Though I can’t say I love that last part of grocery shopping quite yet. Damn, groceries can be expensive!

I received an email from a reader today:

LOL. I hardly think I’m the only one with the red DM’s in all of Klang Valley, but yes that was probably me.

Was at Bangsar for an interview and photoshoot with The Sun newspaper a couple of days ago, and when I asked if she needed me to bring anything specific, she said “bring your red patent leather DM’s wokay.

I don’t know when’s the feature coming out, but if someone sees it, do let me know ok?
‘Cause I always seem to miss these things.

Here’s some pictures of Heineken Green Room 4 last weekend.

CRAZY RIDICULOUS amounts of awesome. The whole fcuking line up was pure madness, Heineken Green Room totally outdone itself this time.

Is it just me, or do the better parties all seem to happen beginning of the year? That was certainly the case for me in 2009. Good parties all year round, but GREAT parties January-March.

Hello Miri!

The first thing I noticed about Miri (before actually stepping foot onto Miri) was how *green* it was. The plane flew over the South China Sea, descended from the puffy white clouds, and then it was all greeeeeeeeen.

Nothing like the concrete jungle that is the city of KL. Perfection :) Just what we needed right after the whole Christmas/New Year’s parties and overall craziness. We are here!!

P1030740-w

Mama Buri greeted us at the airport and took us home.
She gave me the grand tour of the house with stories of the family growing up, and I was completely charmed by everything around me - the house reminds me a lot of Lorelai Gilmore’s home! (from Gilmore Girls ;p)

There were so many little charming trinkets and gadgets and gizmos, every little quirky thing told a story. All that was missing was the dancing rabbi. (If you’re as big of a Gilmore Girls fan as I am, you would know what I’m talking about ;p)

But better yet, the home was also authentically Sarawak. Like while I’m studying family trinkets and photo frames, suddenly I spot a sape in the back.

Full bookshelves! I love looking at full bookshelves :) and the books in them really tell a lot about a person.

Mine, unfortunately, consists of a lot of ACCA textbooks and notes. And Frankie magazines :)

This holds a lot of novels and Papa Buri’s old law books.

And while I thought I was done with the house, I turn around and see this by the door.

Started the next day with Sarawak Laksa!

Though we pretty much started, middled, and ended every single day with food la. Hee hee hee.
But I didn’t take much pictures of food (and my favourite BBQ pork oh lord yumm) because clearly, I have no patience for that, I just eat straight away :)

P1030632-h
Where are we going, where are we going.

P1030646-y

We drove for what felt like forever. Ok maybe an hour. But you would think when there’s nature all around you, the beach and everything too - visiting the waterfalls shouldn’t be too far away, non? :)

P1030649-y
We’re hereee!

P1030654-q

I didn’t bring shoes or pretty much anything to go hiking in, so flip flops will have to do!
Papa Buri scared me a little with talks of leeches in the water the last time he was there. GREAT.

But I loved being in the jungle though.
The last time I went hiking or anything like that was when I was 16, at Outward Bound School, Lumut.

P1030679-m

P1030672-p
We soon came across this mini waterfall. As pretty as it was, I was a little disappointed.

“So… this is it?”
“No, the waterfall is still up ahead. But when I was younger, me and my friends would come and play here.”

Wow. The only waterfall I played at as a kid was at Sunway Lagoon. No fair!

Geeky Shopping Spree

What a day.

After many (many) months of going back and forth on “should i buy it.” “should i buy it.” “i dont need it.” “but i really want it.” “wah so expensive.” “dowan la.” “dowan.” “ok dowan.” “but.” “ahh, fcuk la.”

I finally made the decision (after almost backing out again last minute this morning) and dragged my geeky ass down town and blew 2 grand at Lowyat Plaza.

The sharp depletion in my bank account kinda still hurts to think about, but holy smokes, I am so in love with my new toys :)

Finally got me my very own *black* LX-3. The silver one David bought for us (yes, us, to share) is so not working well on my conscience because duhh, i totally hog it for myself and lug it around everywhere I go. And sayang, i love you muchly, but black still pwns silver any day ;)

Also, a hard drive & media player to store my EVERYTHING. Gilmore Girls, Grey’s, SATC, HIMYM, everything, season 1 to whatever. Movies and other whachumacallits. Plug it onto the big screen TV, sit back, and be a true couch potato. Because watching it on the laptop just ain’t the same, yo. Damn i miss my Sunday couch potato days with sisterDebbie :)

I don’t think the geekology will end with me soon. Will spend a day or two in the near future straining my eyes at HTML codes, because it’s time for a revamp. This current layout is so… 2008. ;)

(The real) crazy transition into 2010

Posted on January 11th, 2010

(Sorry ‘tomorrow’ turned into, one week later )

Transitioning into the new year, I thought I’d expect the usual, just one Christmas and one New Year’s celebration, then that’s it. Blog and get on with it.

But this time round, the year ending was particularly, festive.

There was so much going on, I couldn’t even catch my breath. And before I knew it, I’m on the other side of Malaysia, more like just to get away from it all, to detox and come back fresh and ready to start the new year :)
But then I look at the calendar and it’s already almost middle of January. What the. why does time fly away like that, WHY!

Here’s a few splashes of pictures of that crazy transition into 2010.
Definitely can’t dedicate one entire post for every single event, although some should really deserve it.

And ironically, among all the loud and insane parties going on everywhere, my favourite night out was a rather quiet one.
Scratch that. On second thought, it wasn’t that quiet after all with wine, guitar, (make that a whole jamming corner), and great company.

P1030508-y
Imir entertains, on vocals and guitar. Azam on drums

There was this cozy little jamming corner in the living room, where we all hung out after dinner.

P1030512-p
David on bass… I think.

P1030511-o
Leon on vocals and guitar.

People took turns going up to perform a lil’ something, or just to jam.
It was then I realized that I was in a roomful of extremely talented people.
The boys would play the guitar, then switch to bass, or jump back on drums. Multi-talented can die.

And this was no random out-of-tune karaoke session or anything. I felt like I could have paid good money to watch these boys play at No Black Tie, or something. Talent overload! Someone quickly turn them into superstars, please.

P1030516-r

P1030521-n
Jeremy looking abit nervous here :)

P1030522-j
Even Uncle Idris took a shot at it!

Dayumm. Also, a little side note. All the wall paintings you see were painted by Leon.
Multi-talented can die. He’s only 20, btw.

Later, we all moved out onto the patio

P1030483-q
with Bryan! Super long time no seeeee

So I thought by heading to that quaint new neighbourhood bar called Tom, Dick & Harry’s with my friends would be a seemingly quiet night, (since I thought everyone else would be in KL for Bloody Beetroots)
It was an awesome surprise to see so many familiar faces there most of which I haven’t seen in forevermore.

And lastly…

P1030554-n
Basement Jaxx was *SO* the bomb.

There was this crazy hype going around before the event, everyone going “WHERE’S YOUR HEAD ATTT” all over Twitter :p
Hypes like these tend to raise expectations, and then the event may fall short. Well, certainly not with Basement Jaxx. Crazy stuff. Singing and screaming all the way!

What a way to start the new year. You can see why, upon being ask to visit quiet town Miri after this, I said yes in a heartbeat.
