Subway virgin.
Halu! Back from Langkawi!
Sorry I didn’t get the chance to say something about that, got so ridiculously busy during my last few days before Lgkwi i didn’t even get to pack properly! Ended up waking late at 8.45am, friends supposed to pick me up at 9am and i haven’t even packed yet. I AM SO CHAMPION SOMETIMES I AMAZE MYSELF.
Langkawi. Was. AWESOME. by the way.
Will definitely talk more about it later, complete with pictures, silly stories and the works :)

But for now, I’m finishing off a post I starting writing right before the Langkawi trip.
Now, it’s no surprise (to people who know me) that I don’t normally eat bread, or cheese, or milk; generally most dairy products. And over my entire life, I’ve gotten a LOT of interesting reactions from people for that
- Typically, most of them give me the raised eyebrow, the What-the-heck-is-wrong-with-you look.
- Some complement that look with the actual words, “What the heck is wrong with you” or “…then, what do you eat?” “uh. rice? -_-”
- Some are considerate and jump to the assumption, “Oh! Are you lactose intolerant?” “umm, no”
- Some go full out, wide-eyed look of terror
and hysterical. “No bread? Does that mean no burger? Mcds? Burger King? RAMLI BURGER???”

But i think the most memorable reaction i got was at OBS camp, when i was 16 (WTF i just counted that’s 6 bloody years ago omg give me a moment to recover from that shock)
They needed all participants to fill out a form of their particulars, including food allergies, etc.
i of course put in bread. :D
The camp instructor burst into the room, clipboard in hand. “Okay. So who’s this alien that doesn’t eat bread.”
*raises hand sheepishly*
But last weekend’s episode at Sid’s with Alda and David, definitely made it to the top of the list.
So the topic came up and i casually told David, suddenly his face completely changed. [refer bulletpoint no.4]
“WHAAAT? No bread?” “mostly no” “So you’ve never had Subway? YOU’VE NEVER HAD SUBWAY.”
“OH MY GOD you don’t eat cheese?” “no” “What’s wrong with cheese? Parmesan?” “no” “Mozzarella?” “n-” “Gouda? Cheddar?” “david-” “Feta cheese? Ever had the Dominoes (triple decker something-majiggy) cheese? YOU’VE NEVER HAD FONDUE???”
“WAS EVERYTHING YOU NAMED A TYPE OF CHEESE? RIGHT, SO NO.”
But if that wasn’t bad enough, it was his face. So angry. Like I insulted his mom or something -_- (read: scary)
So the next day I was at Telawi Street picking up my new sunnies, running very late and VERY hungry (there was no lunch at home), when I walked past Subway.
Considering last night’s bread debacle, a very angry face, and the fact that i was VERY hungry, :( i decided to give Subway a first try.
(and i figured, if i really didn’t like the bread then i’ll just eat everything else, or maybe just half the bun, like how i eat my Ramli :p)
I felt a little overwhelmed by just staring at the extensive menu board. Freaking a lot of things to choose from right.
I asked the little lady at the counter for help, but seeing that this is Malaysia, I half expected her to shove me a menu and just, uhm, read closer.
I told her this was my first time and needed some assistance - and I was pleasantly surprised by her attentiveness!
She was all, (in Malay) “Your first time? That’s okay! You’ll need to know there’s generally 2 sizes, 6-inch or foot-long, but if you think you can’t finish it we can cut it in half for you……”
We engaged into this long chirpy conversation about the different types of bread, which one’s healthier, flavour recommendations, relish and sauce, etc. At the end of it, I started to realize how simple it was, haha Subway veterans would die laughing at this clueless post
We then continued to talk about how healthy Subway is supposed to be, she even told me before she worked here she was much heavier, Subway helped her lose a lot of weight
So cute la this little Malay lady! I would think service like this only exists in western countries, you can practically make friends instantly with those super friendly assistants on a mission to please. Crazy.
So my first experience at Subway was really good, well service was A++ add 5 gold stickers, food was great too I ordered the Italian BMT (no cheese please, hahaha) next round I’m gonna order the Steak and Cheese with no cheese.
Happy days!

OMG!!! i’ve finally met a friend.
i hate bread, not that i can’t eat it. but i feel like it’s diet food.
i don’t take cheese coz i turn blue and am sorta lactose intolerant as well.
but i eat pizzas. hehe. i do eat pasta but not with cheese. i’ll order western food minus the cheese. hehe. but but but i LOVE SUBWAY!
people who hear the fact i don’t eat bread, cheese or drink milk always give me this O_O look and then say “No wonder your skinny!” but truth is, i eat rice more than a guy does ;p
so, ur not alone. hehe.

I think my reaction to this post would fall into the category of bulletpoint 4. I Practically LIVE on dairy products! Especially cheese! and sandwiches! I can’t count the number of meals I’ve had that seem to consist entirely of different types of cheese..
So yes, this is a quite hard-to-digest fact (excuse the pun =P). Then again I don’t really eat rice, which people also seem to find weird..
But I digress- kudos on finally trying Subway! Babysteps.. :)
